Podoboo Cog Yoshi

A Podoboo Cog as seen in Yoshi's Island DS.

Podoboo Cogs (also called Podoboo Chains, Firebars, Fire Rods, Fire Cogs, Fire Traps, Fire Arms, or simply Spinning Fireballs) are chains of fireballs that spin around endlessly. Usually they're connected to a hard surface while other times, they float in mid-air. While there is usually one Podoboo Cog spinning, there can sometimes be two Podoboo Cogs connected to each other or sometimes even three. If they make contact with Yoshi or his allies, they can cause damage and even knock Baby Mario right off his back forcing Yoshi to retrieve him.

Yoshi series[]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island[]

Podoboo Cogs appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island where they are found in levels such as Tap-Tap the Red Nose's Fort. They are attached to floors and spin into the foreground and background.

Yoshi's Island DS[]

Podoboo Cogs are also seen in Yoshi's Island DS. Here, they are more common in sky-themed levels such as Superhard Acrobatics and Hurry and Throw!. Podoboo Cogs are also seen in lava-cavern-themed levels such as Find the Number Ball and Yikes! Boiling Hot. Podoboo Cogs can also be found in Castles too. In this game, they mainly spin around.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]

Podoboo Cogs are also seen in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. In this game, they are found in Castle levels and 8-Tower. One touch of a Podoboo Cog will power Mario down.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[]

Podoboo Cogs return in Super Mario Galaxy 2. In this game, they spin across the ground and are usually found in Bowser and Bowser Jr. Galaxies. They also appear attached to Bowser Jr.'s Boomsday Machine.

Trivia[]

  • Yoshi's Island DS was the first game in the Yoshi series where they were listed under the name Podoboo Cog, previously various other games (such as Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Super Princess Peach, and New Super Mario Bros.) had them listed as such.
  • Their name seems to suggest that they are actually Podoboos formed as a spinning chain.
