The Lunge Fish is an enemy in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
Game Appearances[]
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island[]
Lunge Fish first appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, they hide in the water and will lunge at Yoshi or your Yoshi when he passes by. Occasionally, a Lunge Fish will stick its head out of the water. Yoshi can stun it by throwing an egg at it, or he can defeat it by spitting out an enemy at it. If Yoshi falls in the water, a Lunge Fish will attempt to swallow him.
Yoshi's Island DS[]
Lunge Fish appear again, in Yoshi's Island DS. They act exactly the same from the previous game.
Yoshi's New Island[]
Lunge Fish reappear in Yoshi's New Island, they are prominently found in the level Lose the Lunge Fish. In this game their lunging-while-inhaling behavior is replaced with a Boss Bass-esque leaping, which reveals their entire body. However, they act the same as before, sinking below the water before rising up and forwards in a jerky arc.
Yoshi's Woolly World[]
Lunge Fish reappear in Yoshi's Woolly World. They are found in some stages with water. In this game Lunge Fish are modeled on coin purses, with their lips being made of coin purse clasps. Yoshi designs can defeat them with yarn balls or watermelon seeds, but they'll respawn quickly. They act the same as they do in Yoshi's New Island, but are larger and move through the air slower.
Yoshi's Crafted World[]
In Yoshi's Crafted World, during the level Ride the river, they sit in the background, jumping out whenever Yoshi or 1 of his allies is in sight and they'll destroy platforms while hoping to eat your Yoshi. At the end of the level, 1 will pursue your Yoshi horizontally and destroy many platforms while repetitively leaping in the plans of eating your Yoshi. Near the end of said level's flip side, 2 can be seen looking back and forth and as a result, can jump in many directions.
