Spike is an enemy in the Yoshi (series) debuting in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It's a Koopa that wears a black shell on their back, they originally debuted in Super Mario Bros. 3.

Spike (Mace Penguin) first appears in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, they are only encountered in the level BLIZZARD!!!. It remains stationary and attacks Yoshi or your colour by regurgitating a spike ball and throwing it which rolls along the ground upon impact. It can be defeated with any form of attack.

Spike (Gabon) reappears in Yoshi's Story, it behaves the same as it did in the previous game. If the spike ball reaches a hill, it'll roll along the ground. They're only encountered in the level Jungle Hut.
According to the text seen after beating the level, the Baby Yoshis apparently met one specific Gabon named "Gaboon" while entering his hut. All that is known about the encounter is that the angered Gabon throws various objects at the Baby Yoshis.
